A handbuilt ceramic onggi made by artist Jamie Lee is sgraffitoed with Korean folk imagery, used as a vessel for this performance art. The performance references the iconic “kimchi slap” originally in a Korean daytime drama. The harms that one must endure in the face of racial injustice often goes unnoticed. It leaves physical evidence on the surface but still deeply wounds one in the soul, carrying it with them forever, as it is represented in the hidden staining of the clothes.
