The translation of Asian culture into the West often results in the sexualization and fetishization of the East. Within the East, historical atrocities, such as the Comfort women, continue to be downplayed and unacknowledged by the Japanese government. Crimes toward women, specifically Asian women, are amplified in several different forms. These misconceptions start in the East, in the patriarchic ways that they treat their women, and continue in the West.
